Intellectual & Human Formation

INTELLECTUAL FORMATION

Overbrook Academy sets high, yet attainable, academic expectations for its students. We thrive to help the students acquire:

  • A greater proficiency in the English language as her second language, which includes reading, writing, and speaking English with the greatest possible fluency
  • A wealth of knowledge in general culture and the particular disciplines; a firm grounding in math and the sciences, and in the scientific method
  • An ability to think, speak and write clearly, coherently, precisely, attractively and persuasively
  • Mature thinking, reasoning and communicating skills which are built upon a keen sense of perception and a sharp memory
  • A capacity for reflection and imagination, as well as those technological and inquiry skills intrinsic to the exact and social sciences
  • Study habits essential for ongoing intellectual formation after graduation-- including concentration and critical thinking, perseverance, and a desire to produce high-quality work

HUMAN FORMATION

Human formation cultivates a person’s sensibility to what is good, just, and beautiful, recognizing the harmony of creation in relation to man, nature, and society. It also includes social etiquette, an appreciation for the arts and physical fitness, resulting in a healthy mind in a healthy body.

Through our human formation program our students are given the opportunities to:

  • Become mature individuals who show firmness of will and self-control,
  • Seek and cultivate the virtues of justice, respect, commitment, responsibility, and honesty,
  • Present themselves appropriately in different situations, being neatly groomed and attired,
  • Grow in charity, integrity, honesty and compassion making them good and loyal friends, value good health, hygiene, physical fitness, and the benefits of putting these into practice.
